Manager, Community Engagement

Full-Time, Regular

Reports to: Sr. Director, Outreach & Community Engagement

As our Manager, Community Engagement, you will develop, manage and execute local engagement projects, events, and other activities that connect WETA to communities across the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and deepen its commitment as a relevant and essential community institution.

In an average week, you can expect to:

  • Plan and execute events (virtual and in-person).
  • Draft letters, presentation materials, and promotional copy for WETA projects.
  • Conduct content research for new projects; write and distribute findings. 
  • Develop and maintain community partner lists and utilize email marketing platform Mailchimp to distribute information to external stakeholders. 
  • Support the development of sustainable, effective partnerships with local organizations related to specific projects to broaden the impact and reach of local and national programming.
  • Create, distribute, collect, and analyze impact measurement surveys for internal staff. 

What success looks like:

  • After 60 days, you will have a demonstrated expansion of knowledge of WETA, the Outreach and Community Engagement department, and the public media system; successful participation in department education and outreach projects, events, and activities.
  • After 120 days, you will have a solid understanding of WETA's strategic goals and that of the Outreach and Community Engagement department; successfully leading department projects and events; ability to pitch engagement ideas to the Senior Director and propose new efficiencies that will help to optimize workflow in the department.

You must have:

  • The ability to interact and work effectively with a wide variety of people, including WETA employees and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, project planning, and time management skills with careful attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and communications skills.
  • Familiarity with building community-based projects.
  • Strong understanding and application of computer technology to efficiently accomplish work, using Microsoft Office programs, virtual platforms, database management, and graphic design tools.
  • Experience in planning events.

You should have:

  • College degree preferably in Communications, Marketing, Education or another relevant field.
  • Minimum of four years of experience.
  • Or, equivalent combination of training and experience.

Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
