Our converged newsroom based in Bloomington, Indiana is seeking a reporter to produce weekly hard news radio/TV features. At a time when news operations across the country are folding and newsrooms in this state are contracting, the WFIU/WTIU Newsroom continues to grow. WFIU/WTIU News is the largest public media newsroom in the state of Indiana and we're based in college town in Bloomington.
This position covers news of local relevance and often national significance across all beats, as directed. Works collaboratively with other journalists..
We're looking for a strong storyteller who is good at maanging his/her own time and deadlines. WFIU/WTIU News stories involve taking complex concepts and rendering them into accessible and compelling stories. These stories are carefully grounded in fact, but can be moving as the subject requires. The journalist researches topics and pitches news stories or is assigned stories by the News Bureau Chief. Committed to diversifying sources including ethnicity, income, and education level. Develops contacts and interviews sources, maintains notes and broadcast recordings, writes and edits reports, produces and voices reports for air, and works with production team members or show producers to generate content.
News stories are produced in formats for radio newscasts, in-depth radio features, TV packages, multi-media projects, and special reports as assigned. Reports that can be distributed on WFIU radio news, WTIU TV news, online, through social networking, and mobile. Radio and TV pieces can also be distributed across the state and across the country through NPR and PBS. Produce stories in the appropriate format for online and broadcast: live on-air, copy, actuality, cut & copy, voicer, wrap, feature, series, documentary, studio two-way, radio, TV, and more.
