Our newsroom in Bloomington, Indiana is searching for a senior-level journalist. The Senior Editor/Producer oversees the production of a weekly in-depth TV newscast that focuses on balanced, enterprise story telling. This position writes stories for the show, edits stories, manages the show timing and produces it live. This position is also responsible for editing news stories for daily broadcast and online. The Senior Editor/Producer is the primary spot news editor in the newsroom, and this position serves as a back-up to the News Director and Asst. News Director.
In addition to editing and producing, this position also has some time allotted to produce original content for broadcast on radio and TV.
The Senior Editor is a professional journalist who ensures adherence to journalistic guidelines and practices, and the department’s performance using these principles as guidelines. The work involves collaboration with seven Indiana public radio station news departments.
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Telecommunications, or a related field and two years of experience in public broadcasting or a journalism-related endeavor.
Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
In-depth understanding of journalistic principles, particularly as they apply to public media. Hands-on experience in writing, reporting, editing, production, and on-air delivery for radio, TV, and on-line. Experience working with multi-platform technologies and the ability to adapt material to a variety of platforms. Ability and judgment to produce a large quantity of work to deadline that matches the quality of NPR and PBS productions. Knowledge and understanding of journalism ethics.
One year of editing experience is preferred.
Working Conditions / Demands
Must be able to travel, view, hear, and speak. Travel needs to be accomplished to deadline requirements. Must be able to handle about 30 pounds of audio and video equipment. Ability to work occasional nights, weekends, holiday, and special events; hours of work vary according to need. Able to use related equipment such as:video recorders, digital field equipment, on-air broadcast consoles, digital download boards, computer interfaces, news multi-platform and digital editing software
