Job Description:

WFIU/WTIU Corporate Development Sales Associate
Under the supervision of the sales manager, the Corporate Development Associate develops proposals and presents underwriting, production support, special event and web opportunities to businesses, professionals and advertising agencies. The Corporate Development Sales Associate will prospect, sign, renew, and service new and current corporate development partners for WFIU Radio and WTIU TV programs and promotional activities. The Associate will develop prospecting and lead strategies for both stations with involvement from station managers and staff. The Associate will participate in station activities and events.

Minimum education: Degree in business, marketing or telecommunications.
Minimum experience: Two years successful work in media development or sales. Experience working cooperatively with production, traffic or programming departments.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by IU.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a variety of public and private clients and groups.
  • Demonstrated experience in personal and electronic contact with prospective and client companies, utilizing media research tools, and creating presentation materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of public broadcasting desired; if not, then willingness to learn.
  • Ability to travel mainly in south and central Indiana.
  • Some national training travel required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer.

 

Equipment utilized: Personal computer and scheduling software


Position is governed by station, Indiana University and federal government policies and regulations. This position will communicate directly with new and existing radio, television and online partners to determine the best marketing solution partnerships available under these policies and regulations. This position will need to hear, analyze, and solve client questions and concerns regarding scheduling, copywriting, visual representation, billing, and agreements within theses existing policies and regulations in communication with the supervisor. Failure to do so may result in loss of revenue and station fines. This person takes the initiative to identify opportunities with existing and prospective partners and brings these opportunities to the attention of the Corporate Development Team for development. This position is responsible for comprehensive client care and stewardship.


The Corporate Development Sales Associate is part of a team responsible for raising funds to sustain the financial health of public broadcasting under WFIU and WTIU. Success is measured by attaining and surpassing financial goals individually and as a team. Inability to reach goals results in loss of funding for equipment, programs and services.
