WHRO Public Media is the largest local media company in Norfolk, VA with four TV stations and six radio channels. Since 1961, we have been at the pulse of pop culture, technology, current events and most importantly, education. The Front-End Web Developer combines technology and design to create engaging user experiences, and will help advance WHRO Public Media’s strategic objectives for educating and enhancing the lives of citizens in our region.

Duties/Responsibilities: • Engaging in multiple, ongoing system implementations using JavaScript/CSS3/HTML5 skills to create and maintain web-based applications, interactive web presentations and landing pages, including education, marketing, fundraising and journalism initiatives • Working closely with team members to deliver customized solutions • Documenting, maintaining, and contributing to project stories in project management system • Implementing front-end design of landing pages and websites using responsive design techniques • Experience in building, debugging and maintaining RESTful APIs, familiarity with web services, and 3rd party platforms and libraries • Working with third-party authentication methods • Pushing and merging code to production • Assisting the team with scenario testing and bug fixing • Must participate in virtual meetings via webcam • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities: • 5+ years of development experience with one-page JavaScript applications • Expert knowledge of JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5, CSS3 • Extensive knowledge of REST APIs • Extensive experience with Git (GitHub or GitLab) • Extensive experience with Vue.js • Working knowledge with Sass, Backbone (Marionette), npm, gulp • Extensive experience with browser-based debugging • Extensive UX design experience • Working knowledge of open-source content and learning management systems such as Joomla, WordPress, Moodle, etc. • Working experience with PHP 7, MySQL is a plus

Education: • Bachelor degree in computer science, or an analytical discipline, or equivalent

Additional Eligibility Qualifications: • Must have a reliable ISP connection with any US service provider • Must have reliable cellular telephone service

Physical Activities • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. • Communicating with others to exchange information. • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. • Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Environmental Conditions • No adverse environmental conditions expected.

Physical Demands • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
