WPSU Penn State is seeking an experienced fundraiser – ideally with a public media background – to secure financial support from businesses and organizations for programming and community activities related to our PBS and NPR stations. WPSU Penn State serves central Pennsylvania with a mission to spark discovery, enrich learning, and strengthen community through vibrant public media. Licensed to The Pennsylvania State University, WPSU serves 500,000 households across 24 counties with four TV channels and 13 counties with three FM signals. We offer numerous local community events and serve a worldwide online audience through WPSU Digital Studios and live streaming of our FM channels. WPSU plays an integral part in the outreach/land grant mission of the university. Responsibilities of the Business Support Representative include the identification, assessment, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of for-profit and non-profit business entities as well as the ongoing tracking of donor relationships, preparation of proposals and Memoranda of Agreement, and active engagement with business communities throughout the region through functions and events hosted by chambers of commerce and other relevant entities. Discussions with clients and prospects, through face-to-face meetings and contacts with agencies, will focus on support for our broadcast program schedules, production of our local content, and sponsorship of events. These discussions can include funding agreements with internal University clients and, when appropriate and beneficial to the stations, involve trade deals. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Knowledge of database and development systems is a plus. A demonstrated passion for the mission of public media is a definite advantage. The successful candidate must be a persuasive and strategic communicator with excellent interpersonal and written/spoken communication skills and will serve as an ambassador for WPSU and public media in a wide variety of settings, including on-air during fundraising drives. Other competencies critical to success include: proven experience in securing new business support; detailed knowledge of media sales; experience working with advertising agencies at the regional and national level; strong customer service orientation; ability to work independently and take initiative; keen attention to detail and an effective knowledge of Microsoft Office suite products. Operation of a motor vehicle and ability to work non-traditional hours are required for this position. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
