Position: Television Reporter
Reports To: Director of Production and Executive Producer (Newsmagazine Broadcast)
Exempt / Non-Exempt: Exempt – Creative Professional
Rhode Island PBS is looking for an experienced Television Reporter that has a proven track-record of generating and developing great story ideas and can write compelling long-form stories for a weekly broadcast. We are looking for a confident, take-charge television reporter who can hit the ground running and meet deadlines. The successful candidate must be a good interviewer, researcher and can marry creative writing and documentary style video together in a meaningful way. In addition to journalistic integrity, accuracy, and poise, we need a reporter who is not afraid to ask the tough questions and can tell a well-balanced story.
Basic Function: Collaborate with team to generate and pitch solid story ideas. Work with senior staff and producers to line up interviews and conduct interviews. This individual will write scripts, familiar with Final Cut Pro X, and contributes to the weekly newsmagazine broadcast.
Job Responsibilities:
- Reports on important Rhode Island, Southern Massachusetts, New Hampshire stories that New England viewers want to see.
- Works collaboratively with senior staff, producers, photographers, and editors.
- Write scripts
- Regularly researches and produces stories for the weekly broadcast or special project assignments.
- Participates and provides updates to stories in weekly production meeting.
- Works with the senior staff and production team to develop stories that go beyond surface details.
- Develops a network of credible sources and works with production team on all fact check and follow-up.
- Edit on final Cut Pro X
Education / Experience / Qualifications:
- Successfully completes projects on time.
- Excellent writer
- Strong Interviewer
- Must be a team player and willing to collaborate
- Strong news judgement and journalistic integrity
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, Communications, or related field AND six years’ experience in reporting/writing/producing stories in studio and on location; OR,
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
