Job Description:

The University of Tennessee Foundation (UTFI) is seeking a creative professional to join the Advancement team for the University of Tennessee Knoxville campus to secure necessary resources and beneficial partnerships for WUOT Public Radio, UT’s 72-year-old public radio service. The Associate Director of Advancement will be responsible for the strategic planning, development, implementation and oversight of comprehensive fundraising campaigns and outreach activities for WUOT. This position will work with both UT Foundation and WUOT staff, as well as internal and external stakeholders (university administrators, WUOT advisory board members, etc.) to set and carry out fundraising strategy for the station, including: annual giving, major gifts fundraising (as defined by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, as well as UTFI), special projects fundraising, and planned giving.

In addition, the Associate Director is responsible for communicating and marketing the station to a variety of stakeholders via on-air, monthly newsletter, news blasts, social media and fundraising/outreach related pages on the station’s website. This position serves as the chief liaison with WUOT’s Advisory Board and develops engagement and outreach activities for donors and listeners to increase the station’s visibility and public service throughout the community. The position is responsible for building collaborations and partnerships with internal (UT departments, programs) and external constituencies (non-profits, foundations, etc.)

The Associate Director is a member of the senior management team and works collaboratively with the Director and station department heads to assure a collegial and inclusive work environment. The position is responsible for establishing and/or updating and implementing station policies, procedures and activities related to fundraising and community engagement activities, as well as manage and analyze the station’s membership database.


Candidate must have a bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience related to development such as fundraising, sales, & marketing. A master’s degree and 2 years of the above experience is acceptable. Candidate must also have experience with communication/outreach and be comfortable to speak in front of a microphone or “on-air”. Experience with volunteer management to engage a diverse constituency is necessary. Preferred qualifications include experience in public radio, higher education fundraising, community or arts-based organization as well as donor or customer database.
