Job Description:

WYSO is one of America’s most vibrant small public media organizations. Located in bucolic Yellow Springs, Ohio, just outside Dayton and right down the highway from a top-35 media market, WYSO is a big-city station with a small-town feel.

We’re looking for a talented GENERAL ASSIGNMENT REPORTER to join our team.

The General Assignment reporter at WYSO works to uncover and describe the complex underpinnings of how our modern American society works today. Feature stories and complex multiplatform editorial projects help our listeners understand the why of things. News spots and digital breaking news updates keep our community up to date on what’s happening today.

Many of the fault lines of modern life intersect in southwest Ohio. It’s the place where national elections are decided, where a huge section of the new Space Force is housed, where artificial intelligence and mechanization is revolutionizing logistics, and where many of the country’s racial, political and economic tensions are on starkest display.

WYSO’s news department has long been known as a place where powerful stories can be told. This is your opportunity to make a big impact on a small team, and tell some game-changing stories to an audience eager to hear them. You’ll work in audio, primarily, but we’re interested in all of your storytelling skills. We’re an Equal Opportunity Employer, and applicants from historically underrepresented backgrounds in public media are particularly encouraged to apply.
