Job Description:


Connecticut Public recognizes that audiences and revenue streams are changing and becoming increasingly digital with text, photos, videos and interactive products and services for consumers.  As the digital pathway progresses, Connecticut Public wants to provide high-quality, relevant, local journalism, entertainment and other content in whatever form our consumers desire to consume it.

The Vice President of Digital Operations will be primarily responsible for the product and project management of internal customers’ digital product and process needs within Connecticut Public.  Connecticut Public plans to significantly advance its digital presence across all digital platforms and to create an internal Digital Service Bureau to fulfill future brand needs. 

A holistic digital presence includes content from the following areas:

  • Connecticut Public’s  radio network  licensed as WNPR (Meriden), WEDW (Stamford), WPKT (Norwich), WRLI (Long Island, NY)  and its associated digital presence;
  • Connecticut Public’s network, encompassing three major over-the-air broadcast channels—CPTV, Create and Spirit—as well as its children’s digital channel. The television network  is licensed as WEDH (Hartford), WEDN (Norwich), WEDW (Bridgeport) and WEDY (New Haven) and all of this network’s  associated digital presence;
  • The Strategy and Development Department manages Connecticut Public’s revenue generation,  including corporate underwriting, foundations, grants and membership;
  • The Marketing and Branding Department provides valuable market and business intelligence to all of Connecticut Public;
  • The Education Department provides direct educational services across the state of Connecticut; and the
  • Connecticut Public overarching brand presence across all digital platforms


The Vice President of Digital Operations can expect to engage in the following essential functions and responsibilities.

  • Organize, staff, and lead the new Digital Service Bureau within Connecticut Public;
  • Alongside the President/Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer, participate in setting audience and revenue goals for each area of the Company;
  • Play a central role in major strategic decisions Connecticut Public makes in the digital arena including future partnerships and investments;
  • Create, design, and launch digital products based in close consultation with the relevant head of each internal department;  
  • Work  in close collaboration with the Strategy and Development Department, and specifically underwriting, to offer advice on digital pricing, product creation and advertising services;
  • Advise the Education Department  on ways to explore and deliver digital methods to a wider net;
  • Seamlessly integrate digital products, processes, and practices within the existing internal customer base;
  • Advise on best practices regarding social media throughout the company;
  • Enable the technology and workflow of a rapidly-growing amount of video produced at each operation within the company; and
  • Advise on how to increase the usage of our content and services on OTT devices, mobile devices, tablets, smart speakers, and other platforms as they emerge.


  • Possesses a deep experience in the interactive media space with a proven track record of innovation, creativity and success;
  • Demonstrable record of providing thought leadership and action to previous organizations;
  • Communicates complex ideas and processes in clear, simple, and actionable ways;
  • Is a world-class consensus-builder and relationship manager both internally and externally;
  • Despises corporate politics and office gossip and is enamored of a politics-free, results-focused organization;
  • Has knowledge and/or skill in non-profit revenue generation and content creation;
  • Builds trust through his/her professional experience to effectively drive change resulting in rapid adoption of a variety of digital strategies that affect consumers, members and supporters;
  • Demonstrated experience lifting mission-oriented organizations to new heights of digital performance;  
  • Works with large, disparate groups within the organization and across functional boundaries with extreme collegiality and professionalism while creating a culture and atmosphere that nurtures creativity, mutual respect and trust;
  • Is instinctively inclusive and committed to the shared mission of increased quantity, quality, and diversity of the content produced;
  • Leads large, complex projects in a fast-paced environment;
  • Maintains relationships with local and national partners;
  • Represents the Company to the general public, advisory boards, Corporation for Public Broadcasting, NPR, PBS and other professional and community organizations;
  • Has significant leadership experience in multi-framed digital product and process creation and is viewed as a digital innovator; and
  • Believes in listening and including a variety of opinions in decision-making.


Bachelor’s degree in a relevant and related field.  Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience in a media organization with demonstrated progression in increasingly responsible and varied roles.
