Job Description:

Develops and implements policies, programs and financial objectives for assigned departments in relation to accounting and finance functions, including (but not limited to) general accounting, payroll, cost accounting, budget formulation, and treasury. Participates in preparing department budgets and in setting department goals. Ensures continuity and quality between University departments and community.

 

This position will report to the Administrative Director of KUED and the General Manager of KUER.

COMPENSATION: $60,700 to $115,300 Annually

 

WORK SCHEDULE: Full time, Monday-Friday.

 

RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Develops and implements client services, staffing and financial objectives for assigned departments consistent with the University’s goals and objectives.

2. Manages departments, budgets, estimates budgetary requirements for special projects and oversees purchases and inventory.

3. Implements and administers new and existing department programs and services to internal and external clients. Evaluates program effectiveness.

4. Participates in the development and interpretation of department policies to ensure compliance with the University’s policies and regulatory requirements. May authorize exceptions to department policy and procedures related to assigned departments.

5. Establishes internal objectives and implements procedures to meet goals. Assists in setting department short and long-term goals.

6. Oversees department staff management including recruitment, performance evaluations and retention of staff.

7. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing client complaints, concerns and suggestions. Provides appropriate follow through to ensure quality client service.

8. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative relationships with the community and other institutions.

9. Serves as part of the department management team.

10. Prepares the annual audited financial statements for KUED, KUER, The Corporation for Public Broadcasting Annual Financial Reports (CPB). Interacts with commercial audit firms and Senior management from the University of Utah Administrative Services department.

11. Prepares Public Broadcasting industry specific reports including but limited to CPB SABS and SAS reports, and FCC EEO compliance reports.

12.Supervises accounts payable, receivable, purchasing, payroll and disbursement activities for KUED and KUER. Supervises departmental staff.

13. Responsible for the preparation of the annual budget for KUED and KUER in a timely manner. Analyzes operational reports and makes recommendations to department directors regarding all budgeting matters.

14. Assures that KUED and KUER are in compliance with University, federal, state FCC and CPB requirements. Communicates and interprets policies to directors and staff as needed.

Problem Solving

The problems and solutions encountered by this position vary depending on the area and structure of the department. This position frequently addresses problematic situations and often acts a mediator or a negotiator. A major task for this position is to understand the needs of the customers clients and determine what products and services should be provided to meet those needs.

Comments

The incumbent must be proficient in making daily fiscal decisions in assigned area to ensure compliance of current regulations and guidelines.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency required; plus six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required. Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred. This position is not responsible for providing patient care. PREFERENCES:


Experience at a university licensed public broadcasting station preferred.

BS Degree in Accounting Finance or closely related field plus seven plus years in accounting, supervising, and planning/implementing financial systems policy preferred. Master’s degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.
