Job Description:

KUNR Public Radio (KUNR-FM) in Reno, NV is seeking a public radio reporter to join our newsroom as the station reporter assigned to the Mountain West News Bureau. The MWNB is a collaboration of six public radio stations in various Rocky Mountain states covering regional issues impacting the American West, including topics such as wildlife, the environment, health and politics. The MWNB is a Regional Journalism Collaboration with support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and many of the bureau’s stories are aired on nationally syndicated programs.

This reporter is responsible for filing daily spot news and enterprise features that appeal to listeners across Nevada, Montana, Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. Reporting will be done under the supervision of a remote editor, who manages the entire news bureau, and in collaboration with reporters from the other partnering stations. This reporter must be willing and able to regularly travel to different parts of Nevada for story assignments. He/she will also work with KUNR’s news director and other staff members to help with duties related to the station’s larger mission, such as participating in community events or station pledge drives.

Make an immediate impact in our community by providing compelling storytelling and NPR-style journalism across broadcast and digital platforms. Create engaging content with an entrepreneurial mindset – hustle, teamwork and your own talent. Join a passionate, collaborative, inclusive team.

The ideal candidate will have: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited institution and at least one year of radio news reporting or related journalism experience; a confident radio voice; work samples reflecting excellent broadcast and digital storytelling; strong interviewing and audio production skills; a solid understanding of social media content creation. Also helpful: being a hard worker and quick study who can manage multiple individual projects while contributing to a larger team effort.
