The Opportunity  

 

We are seeking an experienced financial manager to oversee our finance, accounting and administrative functions. Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, this individual will be the senior financial manager for our organization.

 

This is very much a hands-on position, and will require significant collaboration with managers and staffers throughout the organization.  It will require the ability to think and act strategically (at a CFO level) across the organization, while also handling some portion of the day to day function of the Business Office.

Job Responsibilities

 

The Director, Finance is responsible for the Finance function of the organization, including general accounting, budget creation, oversight and monthly reporting, cash management, preparation and analysis of financial statements, supervising, coordinating and supporting the annual audit, assisting with the preparation of non-profit corporate tax returns (990’s), and completion of annual financial reports filed with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.  They have specific responsibility for tracking grant-funded projects and initiatives. 

 

Major areas of work will include:

 

  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements for Management, Board of Directors, Finance Committee and others as required;
  • Maintain integrity of general ledger by ensuring all material financial information is posted in timely manner;
  • Periodically review and reconcile balance sheet accounts, and review income and expense accounts for accuracy;
  • Maintain the Official FCC Public file and work with the CEO and Director of Technology in all FCC-related dealings;
  • Supervise Business Office staff;
  • Develop and implement improved accounting practices;
  • Identify, lead installation and maintain new accounting software system;
  • Be the in-house expert regarding financial reporting for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and IRS, understanding all requirements and filing all required reports in timely fashion;
  • Be the in-house expert regarding financial and operational reporting for grants, including advance review of grant agreements, review of award letters, supervision of accounting and compliance, maintenance of temporarily restricted net asset schedules, timely preparation and delivery of required reports of accounting to funders;
  • Monitor cash flow and take action to maximize earnings;
  • Oversee annual corporate audit with outside accounting firm, delivering final document on time, meeting generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and to satisfaction of auditors and management;
  • Oversee preparation of annual corporate tax returns (990s) and related schedules and calculations;
  • Oversee preparation of annual budgets and related schedules, including assisting departments with preparation of their budgets;
  • Oversee the billing and commission calculations for underwriting team;
  • Maintain appropriate corporate insurance coverages;
  • Review contracts and agreements as needed;
  • Maintain all payroll-related activities including semi-monthly payroll preparation and posting to general ledger; annual employee compensation letter preparation; unemployment compensation insurance reporting; and full working knowledge of payroll taxes;
  • Document and maintain accounting policies and procedures with an emphasis on compliance;
  • Be the point person for third-party service providers (payroll, insurance, etc.).

     

 

This individual will report to the CEO and will serve on the Executive Leadership Team.  They are also charged with leveraging their experience and tools in a strategic way across the entire organization, assisting department heads in better understanding the metrics of their work, with an eye toward process improvement and better financial performance.

 

This is a full-time position, and business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Longer hours, evenings and weekend work will frequently be necessary.

 

Requirements/Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience

 

  • BS in Accounting, Finance or related field;
  • 8+ years of experience with financial and tax issues for non-profit entities

 

 

 

 

Personal Characteristics

 

  • Familiarity with foundation and government grant applications, tracking & reporting;
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, and attention to detail;
  • Strong problem-solving and research skills;
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience with implementation of new accounting software & systems;
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook;
  • Excellent research and writing skills;
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality in all matters;
  • Proven success in a collegial and collaborative, personality-driven work setting;
  • Ability to successfully manage and lead staff
  • Enthusiasm for the missions of both WYEP and WESA;
  • A track record of unquestionable honesty, integrity and commitment to service.

In addition to radio programming, both stations play an active role in engaging the community through online and mobile services and in-person events, and have a prominent voice in Pittsburgh’s civic and cultural affairs.

 

Each week more than 200,000 Southwestern Pennsylvanians listen to Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting Corporation broadcasts, and tens of thousands more engage with our content through our websites and mobile digital services.
