Under limited supervision; reports, writes and produces content for Radio, including spots related to news or cultural events in the state and occasional specials for National or Statewide broadcast. Makes critical editing decisions. Pitches ideas and stories to NPR.
Created and researches, writes and voices public affairs and news content pertaining to South Carolina with an emphasis on the upstate. Content may range from short spots to feature-length pieces and include multimedia components.
Covers breaking news, demonstrating the ability to think and act with little or no supervision or little to no initial guidance. Monitors phones, e-mail, AP Wire, SCEMD, appropriate apps., internet and other social media, etc. for any and all information pertaining but not limited to South Carolina Public Radio in the case of an emergency situation. During non-emergency situations must keep up with current news situations. Develops relationships with and follows leads from news agencies, the police, the public, press conferences and other statewide sources.
Responsible for keeping track of all productions you produce in a manner that is accessible and kept up to date at all times. All pertinent information is listed but not limited to the productions including date produced, topic and length. Provide material to post on social media pertaining to South Carolina Public Radio and may be called upon to post material.
Serves as host of live or taped long form broadcasts on South Carolina Public Radio and ETV television. Examples are but not limited to candidate debates and election night coverage. Included is the responsibility to research as necessary. Appearances as a representative of South Carolina Public Radio at various functions.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
This position is located in Rock Hill South Carolina.
MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A high school diploma, experience and/or additional education in the production of radio and/or television programs.
The ability to always know what is going on concerning news; breaking, developing and continuing in a competitive market. Can report on all facets of news from day one of their employment here. Can be at breaking news situation at a moment's notice, can report from that location, if warranted has alerted NPR about a story. Ability to work and make decisions with limited supervision. Knowledge of commercial and/or public radio and/or television news operations required. Ability to work well with others. Ability to project a professional on-air broadcast presence. Professional news writing skills and presentation. Quick, accurate decision making skills under broadcast deadline. Multimedia skills to include DSLR camera and limited video post-production. Computer skills are essential. Proficient in Adobe Audition.
