TITLE: Director of Membership
REPORTS TO: VP of Development
SUMMARY: Texas Public Radio is a mission-driven, award-winning, multimedia organization serving an audience of more than 280,000 across a wide expanse of the state. We are non-profit and community supported. We are looking for a Director of Membership to develop, implement and oversee the execution of our annual fundraising plan to increase individual contributions and maintain stewardship of our individual and business membership programs.
The Director of Membership plans, designs and leads the fundraising team in annual membership development, on-air Pledge Drive fundraising, and planned giving to increase contributions and maintain stewardship of Texas Public Radio’s membership programs. The Director is the primary architect of our annual on-air Pledge Drives, with the responsibility to organize, oversee and lead this vitally important effort. The individual in this role cultivates and broadens TPR’s local and regional donor constituencies, and takes a leadership role in strategic planning of fundraising initiatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans, designs and leads the fundraising team in annual membership development, on-air fundraising, and planned giving in order to increase the number of individual members and business members and their contributions to Texas Public Radio.
Develops effective written, spoken and digital media communication materials for members, including online campaigns; renewals, additional gifts and lapsed mail campaigns; acquisition and new member initiatives; premium fulfillment; gift acknowledgements and year-end tax receipts.
Oversees Membership Department activities and provides problem solving guidance, manages staff and is cross-trained in all functions to lend support to staff when required, and ensures that all individual member and business member contributions are properly solicited and recorded, applying best practices in donor stewardship.
Organizes, oversees, and leads the execution of two annual on-air Pledge Drives including assisting the VP of Development with securing challenge monies, orchestrating Pledge Drive tempo and tone including use of challenge monies and other strategies to increase participation, determining premiums and other member benefits, and overall management of the campaigns.
Strengthens donor relationships by planning and designing effective development efforts with identified donor groups such as the McClain Circle, the Pinnacle Circle, the Gwathmey Legacy Guild and others.
Exercises fiscal responsibility in the oversight of the Membership Department budget.
Analyzes detailed monthly reports including current, year-to-date information and trends for all areas of individual and business member giving.
Plans and attends TPR events and functions in order to cultivate and appropriately steward members.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, Fundraising Management or related field preferred, or equivalent experience. CFRE a plus.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years of membership fundraising, pledge drive fundraising, or experience in a related field that translates into donor cultivation, relationship building, and stewardship. A minimum of five years’ experience in public media fundraising is preferred.
Experience in use of membership database or donor database for management of member donations, contact records, and mailings.
Excellent organization and communication skills, both written and spoken.
Demonstrated professionalism and personal relationship skills, including the ability to work well with other team members.
Solid work ethic, with the ability to capably handle multiple competing priorities and adjust work hours according to the demands of the job.
Self-starter with well-defined leadership skills and supervisory experience.
Must have a valid Class C driver’s license and reliable transportation

Able to hear average or normal conversations in person or by phone.
Frequently and regularly using the wrists, hands, and fingers.
Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or other materials.
Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. May have to lift folders, files, papers, audio/video equipment, and other such items weighing up to approximately 25 lbs.
