|The Editor supervises the cross-platform work of reporters and multimedia producers, ensuring that WAMU has the best, most thoughtful and insightful coverage in the region within key topic areas. Drawing from all platforms--to include social media, web, broadcast, and emerging media—the Editor focuses on core WAMU coverage areas as outlined in the newsroom’s regional content strategy. The Editor helps develop short- and longer-term enterprise stories by reporters; identifies stories that lend themselves to more focused, project-level approaches and explanatory storytelling; and edits short stories in newscasts. The Editor leads the development of coverage plans, fields and assigns story ideas, and acts as a sounding board and the primary and final editor for all content developed by his/her reporters. The Editor ensures that reporters are developing sources, finding fresh angles, and using WAMU’s content strategy and cross-platform focus as a filter. The Editor works in collaboration with the managing editors, to ensure that all stories developed by the reporting staff are told on the best available platform. The Editor is responsible for developing and driving a distinctive editorial style, with an emphasis on depth and analysis, and utilizing natural sound, real Washington-area voices, and best practices in narrative storytelling.
