Job Description:
The Chief of Staff is a key deputy to the General Manager, ensuring the smooth and consistent functioning of the GM’s office and enabling him/her be deployed most effectively with internal and external stakeholders, fulfill commitments, and keep station projects and work flow on track.  This role that requires a combination of focus and flexibility, as well as a willingness to play an active, behind-the-scenes role. As the GM’s trusted emissary and deployment chief, the Chief of Staff needs emotional intelligence, strong analytical skills, good judgment, and diplomacy to help the GM and WAMU accomplish goals.       

The Chief of Staff role is to ensure the GM’s time is leveraged most effectively in all areas. (S)he ensures preparation for and facilitation of meetings and projects involving the General Manager and station leadership. The Chief of Staff  ensures that projects and initiatives are on track, meeting preparation is complete, and that the GM is well-prepared. This may include gathering information from senior executives and staff, assisting in their preparation for their interactions with the GM.    
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education, training and experience.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 10 years relevant experience
  • Impeccable managerial and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record of effectively interacting with senior management.    
  • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments.    
  • Effective, versatile and action-oriented
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in preparing presentations with basic design skills 
  • Willingness to work hard and take direction—but also creatively solve problems for which the answers aren’t always obvious
  • Good sense of self and strong personal presence        
Preferred Requirements:
  • Market research experience a plus
  • Knowledge of WAMU and key stakeholder’s desirable but not essential
