CPB Statement on President Biden’s FY23 Budget Request for Public Media

March 28, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 28, 2022) — Patricia Harrison, president and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), released the following statement today regarding President Biden’s fiscal year 2023 budget request, which proposes $565 million in FY 2025 for CPB’s advance appropriation; $60 million for the public broadcasting interconnection system and infrastructure; and $29.5 million for the Department of Education’s Ready To Learn program in FY 2023.

“The President’s budget request represents a substantial investment in the public media system and affirms public media’s essential role in strengthening our nation’s civil society.

“For more than 50 years, public media has connected Americans to our rich history and facilitated meaningful conversations. The proposed funding would allow public media to contribute to our nation’s civic renewal and create new educational and informational content that helps citizens make informed decisions on issues that affect their lives and our country. Further, it will ensure that public media’s content reaches new and diverse audiences on platforms of their choosing, as we continue to connect audiences to our constantly evolving American story.

“CPB looks forward to working with Congress throughout the appropriations process to ensure public media is well-resourced so that a relevant and trusted public media service is available for all Americans.”
