American Graduate Day 2016

American Graduate Day 2016 (AGD), a four-hour public television broadcast highlighting how adults empower students to stay on the path to graduation, was broadcast live on September 17, 2016, as the capstone of Spotlight Education (a special education-themed week of programming on PBS). AGD 2016 focused on mentorship, by looking at persistent challenges and how mentoring can be part of the solution to those challenges. Topic strands included Early Education, More & Better Learning, Special Needs, STEM/STEAM, Dropout Prevention & Re-engagement and Career Readiness & College Completion. The fifth annual broadcast explored issues affecting critical student subgroups—students of color, low-income students, students with disabilities and English-language learners—still experiencing graduation gaps. As part of AGD, 20 local public media stations received $10,000 Stories of Champions grants to highlight individuals who are making a difference in their communities.
