Using first-person stories and commentaries from academics, police force members and teachers, this two-hour documentary explores the fear that parents of color have for their sons as they enter adolescence and face a world where many assume they are a threat. Stylized essays and portraits of key public figures telling their own stories punctuate the program. Essayists include Questlove, drummer for the Grammy Award-winning band The Roots, and writer Toni Morrison. There are four main stories, each helmed by a producer of a different background, to lend diverse perspectives to the topic. The VMM subgrant funded a video that was released on VMM’s YouTube channel as A Conversation with Native Americans on Law Enforcement.
