Emergency Relief: Louisiana Flood Recovery 2016

CPB assisted Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) in its effort to provide critical support to affected communities and ongoing coverage for recovery efforts following catastrophic flooding in August 2016. The Baton Rouge area received an unprecedented 31 inches of rain in four days, and flood waters damaged over 110,000 homes, resulting in disaster area designations in 22 parishes. This grant helped LPB to keep the community informed through important local broadcast and web coverage of the recovery efforts. It also enabled LPB to provide critical materials and teacher support to some of the 5,000 children whose Child Education Centers, preschools and daycare facilities were severely damaged or closed due to the flooding.
