First 8 Studios: New Models for Promoting Parent Engagement

WGBH is conducting a nine-month R&D process to explore new technology-based models for engaging low-income parents of young children. Working under WGBH's First 8 Studios development model, which is iterative, needs-based, and responsive to the target audience, WGBH is collaborating with Head Start parents and teachers and Boston-area pediatricians and health workers to identify needs and develop and prototype technology-based solutions (apps) for parents to use with their children. WGBH is documenting and sharing this work with stations online, via social media, and face-to-face, including a workshop at PBS Annual Meeting, to lay groundwork for expansion of the First 8 Studios model throughout the country.
