Emmy nominations

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences recognized public television’s role as America’s storyteller with 51 nominations for News & Documentary Emmy Awards. PBS led all networks, capturing a dozen nominations alone for the CPB-supported news documentary series FRONTLINE. Two NETA programs that aired on many PBS stations and three from the WORLD Channel, a public television multicast channel, are among the public television nominees.

Nominees ranged from PBS NewsHour news reports to Nature and NOVA documentaries, and include the American Experience documentary “The Mine Wars,” which tells the overlooked story of the miners in the mountains of southern West Virginia.

CPB also provided support for the Independent Television Service, which funded the documentaries that aired on Independent Lens garnering 10 nominations.

The awards will be presented on October 5, 2017, during a ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City.
