Last fall, CPB awarded funding to two stations through the Next Generation Warning System (NGWS) grant program, funded by FEMA, to pay for public television and public radio equipment upgrades to expand alert, warning, and interoperable communications. Our team has reviewed hundreds of applications in this first round of funding of the NGWS program, narrowing them down to approximately 50 that meet the top funding priority. Those stations will hear from the NGWS team soon about next steps in the process. We anticipate announcing new grants within the next few weeks, on a rolling basis, with a second Request For Applications (RFA) opening later this spring.
CPB plans to issue a Request For Applications (RFA) for a second round of funding in spring of 2024 with a similar application process.
