Laura Possessky, Assistant General Counsel and Vice President, Business Affairs

Laura Possessky is Assistant General Counsel and Vice President, Business Affairs in the General Counsel’s Office. She is responsible for structuring, drafting and negotiating agreements for CPB grants. She also handles legal and compliance matters relating to the federal agency grant programs, Ready To Learn and the Next Generation Warning System Grant Program.

Prior to joining CPB, Ms. Possessky worked in Business Affairs at the Smithsonian Institution and then moved to private practice. Her practice focused on technology, entertainment, intellectual property, corporate and nonprofit law matters.  

A recognized bar leader, Ms. Possessky has held several prominent leadership roles in the legal profession. She currently serves as Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Science & Technology Law and Vice Chair of the ABA Presidential Task Force on Law and Artificial Intelligence. She is a recipient of the Frederick B. Abramson Award for innovative and dedicated service to the District of Columbia Bar and was honored as a “Woman of Vision” by Women In Film and Video.

Ms. Possessky earned her J.D. from Georgetown University, distinguished with the Dean’s Certificate for Service to the Community. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, Phi Beta Kappa. She is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Maryland and New York and is a member of the Supreme Court Bar.
