Job Description:

GPB seeks a multimedia writer and digital producer who can serve in a lead production role and as a liaison between news team, digital team, and social team. This role is for a SELF-STARTER who will produce daily digital news briefs, report on some longer stories and work across platforms to create, schedule, produce and pitch media-rich online content for the GPB.org news website. This role reports to the Director of Digital News with input from V.P. of News, Senior Director of News and Partnerships, and V.P. of Content.

Candidate Responsibilities:

● This is a production role akin to both a traffic manager and a junior reporter and will involve writing short news stories /adapting radio scripts / TV segments / transcripts and reported excerpts content (including reporting done via social media platforms in the field) into on-demand news briefs or other content.
● May produce up to 3 or more digital briefs per day, in addition to other tasks.
● This role builds author and partner bios in CMS and migrates partner content to GPB CMS daily if requested.
● This role will be one of the leads on coordination of assets and writing and producing for quick turn “Legendary Georgians” digital obituaries (including photos and video) and occasional GPB live news blogs about elections, developing news or other specific events as determined by VP of News
● On less-demanding news days or when other team members are out, this role will jump seamlessly into teamwork on other projects such as the weekly Weekend newsletter and daily GA Today podcast digital recap story.
● Works with/trains interns when needed and other tasks as determined.

Candidate Qualifications:

● 2-4 years of experience as a writer and digital producer for news websites and/or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
● This is not a radio reporter role, but applicants MUST have previous reporting/writing experience from digital publications and provide published clips.
● Desired: knowledge of Georgia politics (state house and national)
● Desires: applicant with past digital editing and fact-checking experience; news judgment, critical thinking, quick decision-making, and the ability to turn out clean, concise, factually accurate copy on tight deadlines are crucial to this role
● Must be well-versed in working with photos, video and audio in a CMS platform, Mailchimp, Adobe Audition, Photoshop, YouTube and more.
● Must be able to work shifts as assigned: This role is 40 hours per week and involves a flexible, possibly rotating schedule that may include occasional early morning, evening or weekend work.
● This role is currently hybrid with certain office days in midtown Atlanta required.
