About the Role

 

WHYY a leading public radio and television station dedicated to enriching our community through award-winning programming and educational outreach, seeks a dynamic and strategic Director of Information Systems to lead and manage our technology infrastructure and operations. As a member of our leadership team, you will play a key role in ensuring the seamless functioning of our IT systems, supporting our mission-critical workflows, and driving technology initiatives that advance our growth and innovation.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the station's technology infrastructure, including hardware, software, networks, cybersecurity, and data management.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive IT roadmap aligned with the station's strategic goals, prioritizing projects that enhance operational efficiency, content delivery, audience engagement, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Manage a team of IT professionals, providing mentorship, training, and performance management.

  • Oversee the budget for IT projects and operations, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost control.

  • Develop and implement IT security policies and procedures to protect the station's data and systems from cyber threats.

  • Direct and lead the IT team to deliver exceptional infrastructure and IT operations services that include network and server administration, internet and phone services, firewall, system backups, disaster recovery, the service desk, Office 365, and video conferencing.

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in the media and broadcasting industry, evaluating their potential impact on the station and recommending relevant solutions.

  • Collaborate with department heads across the station to understand their technology needs and develop solutions that optimize their workflows and productivity.

  • Manage vendor relationships, negotiating contracts and ensuring service delivery meets the station's requirements.

  • Manage communications infrastructure, WAN, LAN, and SD-WAN contracts and support.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant technology regulations and licensing requirements.

  • Lead IT disaster recovery planning and testing to ensure operational continuity in the event of unforeseen events.

  • Contribute to the establishment of IT policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

 

Experience: Minimum 10+ years of experience in a leadership role managing IT infrastructure and operations in a complex organization. Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing IT strategies in alignment with business goals. Experience managing and leading teams in demanding business environments. Strong understanding of broadcast technology and its applications in radio and television production is a plus. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively under pressure. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated commitment to public service and the mission of a nonprofit organization.
