Job Description:

Fresh Air is looking for a strong part-time producer with a curious mind, a desire to capture the zeitgeist, and a passion to explore all facets of culture including entertainment, news, science, philosophy, and the gray areas of life.

 

The ideal candidate should be equally skilled in brainstorming and pitching, with a vision that can be executed across the Fresh Air brand, which includes radio, podcasts, digital video, and social media. The ideal candidate should also have a passion for collaboration, tending to the sensibilities of the show and the West Coast host. The ideal candidate should also have a bias for action, with a desire to find new and bold ways to capture younger and more diverse audiences.

 

This role is based in Los Angeles, California, and will work closely with our West Coast host.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Be an onsite thought partner for co-host.  Ideate, create and execute with the co-host content for social media elements for in-studio and remote guests.

  • Collaborate with Fresh Air and WHYY digital teams to create videos that will accompany radio and podcast audio. Submit to Fresh Air social media producer for approval and final execution on social media platforms.

  • Coordinate with Philadelphia producers on logistics for in-studio guests at NPR West.

  • Record in-person and remote interviews through the audio board at NPR West.  Connect with engineers in Philadelphia to bring in taped audio.

  • Plan, coordinate and serve as a field producer for approved remote interviews and recordings outside of the studio.

  • Coordinate with producers to produce live Fresh Air events.

  • Work with co-host to create organizational tools that will allow for a streamlining of processes, creating an efficient workflow that allows for creativity and expansion of the brand.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred. A candidate without an undergraduate degree may be considered based on experience/skills.

 

Experience: 5+ years in a news/culture/entertainment magazine environment and editing long-form content in audio, text or video. Proficient in journalism-related social media, both creating and producing. Proficient in field producing. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, deadlines and time management.

 

Technical Skills:  3-5 years years experience with video and audio production.  A PLUS: Knowledge and skill using Adobe Premiere, Adobe Audition and After Effects. Strong audio and visual judgment, sharp grasp of art direction and keen eye for use of illustration and setting an overall visual tone. Demonstrated ability to create compelling stories that incorporate photography, video, text and audio.
