The Pushouts

This one-hour documentary uses the story of Victor Rios, a university professor who was once a Mexican immigrant and gang-affiliated teen on the verge of dropping out of high school, to highlight the tools and leadership needed in schools to improve educational outcomes for young people. The Pushouts refers to the students (often Latino and African-American) who do not choose to drop out of high school but are "pushed out" by forces such as poverty and the juvenile justice system and never graduate. This project is aligned with the American Graduate initiative.
